I’ve been asked how I got into this whole photography thing, and to be honest, while I wish I could tell you this was something I dreamed about since I was a little kid, it really wasn’t. It started when my dad, a photographer of 20 years, put a camera in my hand and said “My hands shake too much; I can’t use this anymore. It’s yours. Have fun, mama.”
And so it began.
This awkward, socially-anxious, self-conscious, dorky 16-year-old theater queen began to bring her camera everywhere: School, rehearsals, sleepovers, parties. Eventually I became the girl with the camera. It gave me a home, something to focus on, a way to connect. I found that people sparkled when they felt beautiful—sometimes for the first time—in front of my camera. And without knowing it I found a career for myself that not only fueled my work as an actor, but also empowered others around me.
One thing led to another and ten years later, with an amazing team by my side, this business has grown into something so precious to me. I am a photographer, but I am also an actor, director, movement maker, singer, and an artist in many mediums, all of which share a common language of human emotion and storytelling.
